Their story
Margaret of Valois, born May 24, 1553, at Saint-Germain-en-Laye, was a prominent figure during a tumultuous era of French history. Daughter of King Henry II and Catherine de' Medici, she held the titles of Monarch of Lower Navarre, Queen of France, French Co-Prince of Andorra, and Count of Foix through her marriage to Henry IV. Her life spanned a period of intense religious and political strife in France, including the Wars of Religion. Despite the challenges of her time and her eventual annulment, Margaret remained a woman of considerable influence and intellect, known for her patronage of the arts and her thoughtful memoirs. She passed away in Paris on March 27, 1615.
